Cobalt rarely occurs in natural water. It is used in the manufacture of alloys
to increase corrosion resistance and strength. It is found in wastewaters as a
corrosion by-product.
APPLICATION:
Industrial wastewater.
RANGE:
0.00–2.00 Cobalt
MDL:
0.02 ppm
METHOD:
PAN (1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-Naphthol) forms a greenish
complex with Cobalt (Co
+2
) at a pH of 5.
SAMPLE HANDLING &
PRESERVATION:
Store samples in acid-washed plastic bottles. Adjust
pH to less than 2 with nitric acid. Adjust sample pH to 5
before testing.
INTERFERENCES:
Iron (+2) and high concentrations of heavy metals.
