To enable the output, first tap either VOLTAGE or CURRENT control once to exit setpoint mode
(SET disappears from the status display) then tap the DC OUTPUT switch once. The DC OUT-
PUT
indicator goes on to indicate the output is enabled.

To disable the output, press and release the DC OUTPUT switch again. The DC OUTPUT indi-
cator goes off.

While in the setpoint mode (Status display reads SET) the output cannot be turned on (pressing
DC OUTPUT has no effect). If output was on while setpoint mode was entered, pressing DC
OUTPUT
will disable the output.

For setpoint adjustment refer to PAR. 3.2.10.2. To enable/disable the output using Remote
inhibit refer to PAR. 3.2.6. See PAR. 3.2.17.3.2 for details about automatic enabling of the out-
put after recovering from a fault.

3.2.6

ENABLING/DISABLING THE OUTPUT USING REMOTE INHIBIT

The Remote Inhibit (rINH) signal applied to analog I/O port pin 8 (see PAR. 2.7.9) can be used
as a remote inhibit or emergency shutdown when in either Local or Digital modes. One use of
this signal in either Local or Digital mode is as a safety interlock to prevent a potentially hazard-
ous output during system servicing. When in Analog Control mode this signal can be used for
remote on/off control of the output.

This signal is a TTL signal that can be programmed to be active (turn the output off) for either a
TTL high (logic 1) or TTL low (logic 0) (see PAR. 3.2.17.3.1).

If rINH is set to be active for low, an open condition at pin 8 causes the output state to default to
ON.

If rINH is set to be active for high, an open condition at pin 8 causes the output to remain off. If
quick-boot (see PAR. 3.2.17.2) is off and rINH is set to high, upon power-up the status display
will flash rINH at the end of the start-up sequence to remind the user of this condition (see PAR.
3.2.1).

LOCAL CONTROL MODE. For Local Control mode, the Remote Inhibit signal acts as a true
remote inhibit. If Remote Inhibit is asserted, the output will be disabled even if OUTPUT ON
switch is pressed. To enable the output after Remote Inhibit has been asserted, first withdraw
Remote Inhibit, then tap OUTPUT ON switch. If OUTPUT ON switch is pressed while Remote
Inhibit is asserted, the command is ignored and rINH is flashed once in the status display

DIGITAL CONTROL MODE. For Digital Control mode, the Remote Inhibit signal acts as an
emergency shutdown. Asserting Remote Inhibit overrides OUTPut ON commands and forces
an OUTPut OFF state. This is true even if AUTOmatic recovery from a source power or over-
temperature fault should return the output to a previous enabled state. If Remote Inhibit is
asserted, the output will be disabled even if OUTPut ON command is sent. To enable the output
after Remote Inhibit has been asserted, first withdraw Remote Inhibit, then send OUTPut ON
command. If the OUTPut ON command is sent while Remote Inhibit is asserted, the command
will be ignored, and rINH flashes in the status display every two seconds.

ANALOG CONTROL MODE. If the output has previously been enabled, asserting/withdrawing
Remote Inhibit allows the output to be enabled/disabled remotely. If the output is already off, this
signal has no effect; however if Remote Inhibit is active, and an attempt is made to turn the out-
put on, the output will stay off and rINH will appear in the status display. If Remote Inhibit is
withdrawn, the output will go to the levels programmed on Vref and Cref without warning.
