SCOPE OF MANUAL

This manual contains instructions for installation and operation of the KLP series of 1200W out-
put power, stabilized voltage or current, d-c power supplies manufactured by KEPCO, Inc.,
Flushing, New York, U.S.A. Digital remote operation is described in the KLP Developer’s Guide
which can be downloaded from the Kepco website at
www.kepcopower.com/support/opmanls.htm#klp.

WARNING

DANGEROUS AND LETHAL POTENTIALS ARE PRESENT,

BOTH WITHIN THIS POWER SUPPLY, AND AT THE OUTPUT!

Before proceeding to use the power supply, read this manual very care-

fully. Caution must be used when working with, and making connections

to, this power supply. Use only wires with the proper voltage rating for

high voltage connections.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The KLP Power Supply Series (Figure 1-1) are universal input, automatic crossover, 1200-watt
constant power, voltage/current stabilizers with a full rectangular output characteristic within the
voltage and current ranges listed in Table 1-2.

Seven standard (previously referred to as -1200) KLP Models and seven KLP E-Series Models
(previously referred to as -1.2K) are available, as listed in Table 1-2. The standard Models are
GPIB and RS 232 compatible; the KLP E-Series Models (identified by the E suffix) are GPIB
and LAN (ethernet, LXI) compatible. The only difference between standard and E-Series models
is that LAN replaces the RS 232 interface on E-Series models. All models allow remote analog
programming as well as local control.

For each model a multitude of virtual models can be configured. The “rated voltage, maximum
current at rated voltage” and “rated current and maximum voltage at rated current” parameters
define the virtual models available within the limit of 1200 Watts of output power (see Figure 1-
2)
.

KLP power supplies operate from wide range 90-265V a-c, 45-66 Hz input source power. Since
there are no internal adjustments, KLP Power Supplies offer excellent output voltage/current
stability and easy calibration.

Output voltage and current are displayed on independent LED displays. Control of the KLP can
be either local, via the front panel controls and displays, or remote, using 1) either analog sig-
nals (applied to the Analog I/O Port), or 2) digital programming. Digital programming of standard
models is via either IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) bus or RS 232 communication bus. The E-Series mod-
els offer digital programming via either IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) bus or using direct or web page con-
trol via the LAN port. Digital control is done with 12 bits of resolution over the entire
voltage/current range.

The full-rack cross section permits mounting in a standard 19-inch wide rack (for optional chas-
sis slides); see Table 1-5. Load connections are made at the rear panel. Sensing, monitor, and
current share terminals are also available at the rear panel. Outline dimensions are provided in
Figure 1-3.
