Using VS-Link

“Hot-Swapping” Units
On occasion, it may be necessary to replace an existing and configured
RocketPort Serial Hub unit with an identical unit, without downing
the server or reconfiguring ports. To do so, follow these steps:
1.
Shut off the old RocketPort Serial Hub unit, connect all cables to
the corresponding ports on the new RocketPort Serial Hub unit,
and power up the new RocketPort Serial Hub unit.
2.
Write down the network (MAC) address of the new RocketPort
Serial Hub unit on the customer service label provided.
3.
Start up VS-Link (see Step 1 of the Accessing VS-Link Menus
subsection, if you need help).
4.
Highlight the name of the RocketPort Serial Hub unit that you
want to swap out and click the Properties button.
5.
Enter the new network (MAC) address of the new unit.
Note: Leave all other properties the same.
6.
Click OK to exit the Device Properties window.
7.
Click OK to exit the VS-Link Main Setup screen.
8.
Click OK to save the new configuration.
9.
Click OK to close the Windows restart advisory message.
The new RocketPort Serial Hub unit immediately replaces the old one
under the old unit’s device name. Restarting the system is not needed.
