10 Installation Overview
Introduction
Installation Overview
The following subsections outline the various RocketPort Serial Hub
installation scenarios. For more information about hardware issues,
see the Hardware Installation Card. For more information about
software issues, see Installing a New Version of VS-Link on page 20.
Initial Installation - Quick Reference
Use the Hardware Installation Card to install the hardware for the
first time or this procedure:
1. Install the RocketPort Serial Hub.
2. Install RS-232 serial devices.
3. Connect the RocketPort Serial Hub to the network hub or server.
4. Power-up the new RocketPort Serial Hub and verify that it passes
the power-on diagnostics.
5. If necessary, unzip the VS-Link distribution file, see Extracting the
Files on page 19.
6. Install and Configure VS-Link, see Installing a New Version of VS-
Link on page 20.
7. Configure serial ports to support the RS-232 devices.
8. Shut down and restart the server.
Installing VS-Link Updates - Quick Reference
This procedure lists how to update VS-Link:
1. Remove the existing VS-Link, see Removing Existing VS-Link
Software on page 17.
2. Install and configure the new version of VS-Link, see Installing a
New Version of VS-Link on page 20.
3. No port configuration changes are required.
4. Shut down and restart the server.
Note: There are no hardware changes required when updating VS-
Link.
