Appendix 1 SNMP Settings
When you set up the Software Access Point from the remote PC, using the Access Point
Configuration Utility, the SNMP Extension Agent must be operating at the connected MAGNIA
(access point).
Community and Access Rights
The SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol that manages network-
connected communications devices via the network.
The Access Point Configuration Utility uses this protocol and sets the software access point from
a remote computer.
SNMP prevents unauthorized access and incorporates "community" and "access rights" to
achieve security.
Community
SNMP has an SNMP manager (Access Point Configuration Utility) and an SNMP agent (MAGNIA)
that is managed. Community is a group for managing. This group has an SNMP manager and
SNMP agent. Since the group is recognized by its community name, a connection cannot be
established if the community name is wrong (regardless if both communities support SNMP).
Therefore, the Access Point Configuration Utility and MAGNIA (Access Point) must be set to the
same community name.
