Where indicates the host status.
4.7.7 Storm control
A BroadcastStorm is a result of an excessive amount of broadcast messages simultaneously transmitted across a network by a
single port. Forwarded message responses are heaped onto the network, straining network resources or causing the network to
time out.
The system measures the incoming Broadcast and Multicast frame rate separately on each port, and discard frames when the
rate exceeds a user-defined rate.
The Storm Control page provides fields for enabling and configuring Storm Control. The screen in Figure 4-34 appears.

The Page contains the following fields:
• Port
Displays the port number for which storm control is enabled
• Broadcast Control This indicates whether broadcast packet types are forwarded on the specific
interface.
• Mode
By which specifies the Broadcast mode currently enabled on the device. The
possible field values are:
• Unknown Unicast, Multicast & Broadcast, counts Unicast, Multicast, and
Broadcast traffic.
• Multicast & Broadcast, counts Broadcast and Multicast traffic together.
• Broadcast Only, counts only Broadcast traffic.
• Rate Threshold
Where the maximum rate (packets per second) at which unknown packets are
forwarded. The range is 70 -100000.
The default value is 3500.
