Creating Check Digits

1.

Using an ASCII text editor, create a file to hold your check
digit calculation scheme.

2.

Place a left brace { on line 1. Go to the next line.

3.

Find the Check Digit you created in Chapter 4, "Using
Check Digits."

4.

Type all values from boxes A1 through A8 on line 2 in your
file as follows:

Place the A from box A1 at the beginning of the line.
Do not place a space or any other character before the
A.

Enter all information in CAPITAL letters (except
phrases in quotes).

Place a comma between all values.

Make sure you have 8 items in line 2.

Do not forget the quotation marks around item 8.

Place a split vertical bar

p

at the end of line 2.

5.

Go to the next line after the split vertical bar. Place a right
brace } on that line to end the check digit. Your check digit
file should look soemthing like this:
