APPENDIX K: BMK 1.5 DUAL-FUEL SWITCHOVER
INSTRUCTIONS
Prior to operating a Benchmark 1.5 Dual-Fuel Unit on either Natural Gas or Propane, a number of
checks and procedural steps must be performed prior to performing the initial start-up and
combustion calibration. These checks and procedures:
•
set the Fuel Selector Switch to the proper position.
•
adjust the Max Fire Rate setting in the Configuration Menu of the C-More Control Box
Detailed instructions for performing these tasks are presented in the following sections.
K.1 Switchover From Natural Gas to Propane
To switch from Natural Gas to Propane operation, proceed as follows:
1. Refer to Figure K-1 and locate the Fuel Selector Switch on the unit, behind the front door.
2. Set the Fuel Selector Switch to the PROPANE position. A Low Gas pressure Fault message
will be displayed on the Control Box.
3. Clear the Low Gas Pressure Fault by pressing the
CLEAR key.
4. Set the
ON/OFF switch on the C-More /control Box to the ON position.
5. Press the
MENU key once. Setup Menu will be displayed.
6. Press the ▲ arrow key once. Password will be displayed.
7. Press the
CHANGE key. Password will begin to flash.
8. Using the ▲ arrow key, increment the display and stop at 159.
9. Press the
ENTER key to store the displayed password.
10. Password 1 will be displayed, indicating that the valid Level 1 password has been stored.
11. Next, access the Configuration Menu by pressing the
MENU key once.
12. Using the ▲ and ▼ arrow keys, scroll through the Configuration Menu and stop at Max Valve
Position..
13. Press the
CHANGE key. The Max Valve Position will begin to flash.
14. Press the ▼ arrow key and decrease the Max Valve Position to 70%.
15. Press the
ENTER key to store the 70% Max Valve Position.
16. Using the ▲ and ▼ arrow keys, scroll through the Configuration Menu and stop at Fuel
Type.
17. Press the
CHANGE key. Fuel Type will begin to flash.
18. Press the ▲ arrow key. Propane will be displayed.
19. Press the
ENTER key to store the Propane Fuel type.
20. Finally, remove the left side panel, top panel and front door from the boiler to access the
Natural Gas and Propane Gas Trains of the unit.
21. Figure K-2 shows a Dual-Fuel unit with a FM Gas Train containing one Natural Gas SSOV
and one Propane SSOV with regulators. If your unit contains an IRI Gas Train [also called a
Double Block and Bleed (DBB) Gas Train] it will contain two (2) Natural Gas SSOVs and two
(2) Propane SSOVs, one with a regulator and one without. For IRI (DBB) Gas Trains, the
downstream SSOV is the one containing the regulator.
22. For Propane operation, close the 1/4” ball valve shown in Figure K-2 at the inlet of the RSI
regulator.
23. Replace the front door and sheet metal panels previously removed from the boiler.
24. This completes the steps necessary to switch from Natural Gas to Propane operation.
