arp
The arp Global Configuration mode command adds a permanent entry in the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)
cache. Use the no form of this command to remove an entry from the ARP cache.
Syntax
arp ip_addr hw_addr {ethernet interface-number | vlan vlan-id | port-channel port-channel number}
no arp ip_addr {ethernet interface-number | vlan vlan-id | port-channel port-channel number}
Parameters
•
ip_addr — Valid IP address or IP alias to map to the specified MAC address.
•
hw_addr — Valid MAC address to map to the specified IP address or IP alias.
•
ethernet interface-number — Valid Ethernet port.
•
vlan vlan-id — Valid VLAN number.
•
port-channel number. — Valid port-channel number.
Default Configuration
This command has no default configuration.

User Guidelines
The software uses ARP cache entries to translate 32-bit IP addresses into 48-bit hardware addresses. Because
most hosts support dynamic resolution, static ARP cache entries do not generally have to be specified.
Example
The following example adds IP address 198.133.219.232 and MAC address 00:00:0c:40:0f:bc to the ARP table.
arp timeout
The arp timeout Global Configuration mode command configures how long an entry remains in the ARP cache.
Use the no form of this command to restore the default configuration.
