Thin Provisioning
You can share THP volumes with SS P-VOLs. You can use a maximum THP volume size of 4 TB
(4398046511104 bytes) as an SS P-VOL.
You cannot use TB, GB, or MB specifications for SS volumes. For example, to create a 4 TB P-VOL,
use the block specification. The block-size equivalent to 4 TB is 8589934592 blocks.
Note the following regarding pools:
•
You cannot use THP pools (including Smart Tiers (Smart) pools) as SS pools.
•
The number of available pools for SS decreases according to the number of THP pools
(including Smart pools) and THP Z pools in the storage system. You can create a maximum
of 128 pools in the storage system.
•
If you specify a THP V-VOL volume as the SS P-VOL and the capacity of the THP V-VOL is
increasing, you cannot create the SS pair.
Resource Partition
You can create an SS pair if the P-VOL and S-VOL are allocated to the same resource group or
different resource groups. Allocate the pool you want to use to the same resource group as the
P-VOL or the resource group that has an authority to create an SS pair.
For more information about resource groups, see the HP XP P9000 Provisioning for Open Systems
User Guide.
Business Copy/Snapshot
You can share BC/SS P-VOLs and S-VOLs with SS P-VOLs. The BC/SS and SS pair’s status
determines the pair operations you can perform.
For more information about BC/SS pair status and operations, see the HP XP P9000 Business
Copy User Guide.
