This appendix provides instructions for monitoring SS using the previous version of the RWC GUI,
which opens in a secondary window.
You can do maintenance and similar monitoring operations in the new RWC GUI. For more
information about maintenance on the new RWC GUI, see
“Business Copy/Snapshot monitoring
and maintenance” (page 44) .
Monitoring the system in the secondary window
Monitoring helps you to keep track of your pairs and volumes in their current and past conditions.
Monitoring is an ongoing activity.
You can monitor the following SS elements:

“Monitoring pair volume details” (page 113)
•
“Monitoring S-VOL path information” (page 115)
•
“Monitoring number of pairs and license information” (page 116)
•
“Monitoring pair operation history” (page 117)
Monitoring pair status
Monitor pair status before and after performing pair operations.
•
Each operation requires a specific status or statuses. To do a pair command, first check the
pair’s status.
•
Pair status changes when you do an operation. Check the status to ensure that the pairs are
operating correctly and that the status is changing to the appropriate state during and after
the operation.
You can monitor the pair status manually using RWC. Repeat the monitoring process frequently.
You can use RWC to set up email notifications when you experience problems during a pair
operation.
Procedure 1 To monitor pair status
1. In RWC, click Actions > Local Replications > BC/SS > Pair Operation.
NOTE: Both SS and BC/SS pairs are shown in the Pair list. SS V- are shown in the S-VOL
column.
2. In the Pair Operation window, locate the pair whose status you want to review. Review pair
status in the Status column.
CAUTION: (Using monitoring software applications on a host server) If you have installed and
are running a software application on a host server to monitor the volumes of SS pairs, the following
problems can occur:
•
An S-VOL whose status is not “PSUS” (or “PFUS”) rejects access from the host, possibly causing
problems for the monitoring software application whose access is rejected.
•
If the host computer connects to more than one port, other ports may also go offline when the
S-VOL rejects host access.
To solve these problems, stop the monitoring software application.
