C Pair operations (secondary window)
This appendix provides instructions on using the previous version of the RWC GUI, which opens
in a secondary window, and RAID Manager.
You can do all pair operations in the new RWC GUI. For more information about the pair
operations, see
Pair operations workflow
Use the following workflow to perform pair operations:
•
Check the pair status. The pairs must have a specific status before you can do a pair operation.
Check the pair status to confirm an operation completed successfully.
•
Create the pair.
The V-VOL is transformed as a virtual copy of the P-VOL.
•
Split the pair.
A point-in-time snapshot of the P-VOL in the V-VOL is created. This allows another software
application to use the V-VOL.
•
Resume the pair.
The SS data is discarded. The V-VOL is returned to a virtual copy of the P-VOL.
•
Delete the pair.
The pair relationship between the pair volumes ends.
•
Restore the pair.
The pair is restored to the point-in-time data of the last snapshot.
Checking pair status
Pair operations require a specific status. Check the pair status before performing an operation.
•
For more information about checking pair status, see
“Monitoring the system in the secondary
.
•
For the operations allowed for specific statuses, see
“Pair status definitions” (page 113)
.
Creating a pair
Creating a pair changes the V-VOL to a virtual copy of the P-VOL. Updates to the P-VOL are reflected
in the V-VOL until you split the pair.
Prerequisite Information
•
The data pool and V-VOL for the new pair must exist. For more information about installing
and configuring data pools and V-VOLs, see
“Business Copy/Snapshot installation and
•
Review the pair volume requirements. For more information, see
planning and design” (page 11)
•
The pair volumes must be in “SMPL” status.
•
Use the same data pool for all pairs sharing a single P-VOL.
For example: Three pairs with the same P-VOL must use the same data pool.
•
Run the paircreate command when the data pool capacity is within the threshold.
•
Running the command immediately after deleting previous SS data takes a longer time to
complete.
