Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 User Guide

About Events

Most devices and applications identified by Storage Management Appliance

discoveries generate events that let a storage administrator view status

information of various types.
A discovered device or application forwards information about an event to the

Management Appliance where it is logged. See “

About Logs

,” on page 60 for

more information about available logs.

Application Events

You can configure the following management applications to send event

information to the Management Appliance:

HP StorageWorks HSV Element Manager

HP StorageWorks HSG Element Manager

HP OpenView Storage Provisioner V1.0

HP StorageWorks Secure Path Manager V4.0

Installing the Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 update

automatically configures the HSV and HSG Element Managers to send event

information to the Management Appliance. However, be sure to check that the

Management Appliance IP address is correctly shown in the Event Notification:

Host Options for each storage cell in the HSV Element Manager.
If Storage Provisioner and Secure Path Manager were forwarding event

information to the Management Appliance prior to the V2.0 update, they will

continue to do so after the update without manual configuration.
If you install the Storage Provisioner or Secure Path Manager applications after

the V2.0 update, be sure to configure those applications to send information to the

Management Appliance. See the application documentation for detailed

information about this type of configuration.

Device Events

Each device identified by an IP discovery must be manually configured to send

event information to the Management Appliance. Most devices send this

information as an SNMP trap.
