Migrating Event Notification Settings

Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 User Guide

If the target user account has an assigned e-mail address, the migration process

does not change that e-mail address. Notification settings are migrated, but

notification is disabled. The same is true if the target user has an assigned e-mail

pager address or the migrated user had email notification disabled for any reason.
If the target user has no e-mail address (standard or e-mail pager), the migration

process assigns the e-mail address of the migrated user. Notification settings are

migrated and notification is enabled. The target user receives notification

messages from the same devices and applications as the migrated user.
By default, the target user receives notification for all event types generated by the

migrated devices and applications. The Storage Management Appliance Software

V2.0 provides two ways an administrator can reduce the number of notification

messages received by the target user. One way is to disable notification for

particular severity types using the Notification Info tab of the User Properties

page. See “

Configuring User Properties for Notification

, page 68 for detailed

information. The other way is to disable unwanted event types listed on the

Events Summary page for the user. See “

Managing User Notifications

,” page 82

for detailed information.
This migration process adds any SNMP trap recipients or hosts to the

Management Appliance database, however the associated settings for event

forwarding are not migrated. See “

SNMP Trap Forwarding

,” on page 67 for

detailed information.
