Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 User Guide
Working with Users
The Storage Management Appliance Software requires each user to complete a
logon process. An administrator can assign each user a user name and password
plus a privilege level. The assigned privilege level determines what pages the
person can view and what actions they can perform. The system administrator or
any user assigned the Administrator privilege level can add or delete users as well
as edit the properties of any existing user including the assigned privilege level.
Consider using SSL to encrypt the transmission of passwords when creating or
modifying user properties. See “
Using the Secure Sockets Layer
,” on page 22 for
details.
User Privilege Levels
As the system administrator, you can assign each user one of the following
privilege levels:
■
User—Can view and modify some of their own user attributes but cannot
change their own privilege level and or notification settings. User privileges
allow a person to receive notifications, however, only a user with
Administrator privileges can create or change notification settings.
■
Operator—Can view and modify their own information with the exception of
assigned privilege level. Operator privileges allow a person to launch
applications and manage their own notification settings. Operator privileges
also allow a person to use the Remote Access function to manage
inter-application passwords.
■
Administrator—Can create, view, and modify the properties that define each
Management Appliance user. Users with this privilege level can control their
own access and notification settings as well as the settings for any other user.
With Administrator privileges you can use most but not all features available
to the system administrator.
When assigned the Administrator privilege level, you can use the Access tab of
the User Properties page to view and change the assigned privilege level of any
user. See “
Setting Additional User Properties
,” page 29 for detailed information.
The privilege level assigned to a user determines the Management Appliance
features that person can access. See
for more information about the
privilege levels required to access various features.
