Upgrade process
FastIron 08.0.xx release introduces several new features and enhancements across all FastIron
products. Before upgrading the software on the device, see
Upgrade and downgrade considerations
on page 9.
NOTE
If you are upgrading from the 08.0.00a or higher software version, you can upgrade using a manifest
file. It provides a simplified upgrade mechanism especially for units in a stack. For details, see
on page 31.
Software upgrade on ICX 6610, ICX 6430, ICX 6450, ICX 6650, ICX
7750, and FCX devices
NOTE
For limitations on upgrading an ICX 6650 device from 07.5.xx to 08.0.xx, see
on page 31.

Load the boot code and flash code. For detailed steps, refer to
page 36.

Enter the write memory command to backup the existing startup configuration and to save the
running configuration as the startup configuration. The existing startup configuration file, startup-
config.txt is automatically copied/synced to the standby unit.
NOTE
When a device boots up with a FastIron 08.0.xx image after an upgrade, the commands in the
startup configuration are converted to corresponding 08.0.xx supported commands. The running
configuration will have FastIron 08.0.xx-supported commands and the startup configuration file
will have the configuration commands supported in releases prior to FastIron 08.0.xx. When you
enter the write memory command, it will first backup the startup configuration file (startup-
config.txt) as startup-config.legacy file, and then save the running configuration file as the startup
configuration. The backup configuration file (startup-config.legacy) is used when you downgrade
to an earlier version.
Software upgrade on FSX devices
On the FastIron SX series devices, the old management module does not support 08.0.xx software
version. The FastIron SX Series 0-Port Third Generation XL Management Module supports only
08.0.00a or higher software versions and the FastIron SX Series 2-Port 10GE Third Generation XL
Management Module supports only 08.0.10 or higher software versions.
NOTE
For FSX devices, you can do a hitless upgrade to a minor or patch release. For details, see the Hitless
management on the FSX 800 and FSX 1600 section in the FastIron Ethernet Switch Administration
Guide.
To upgrade an FSX device to the 08.0.xx software version, perform the following steps.
