Media Bandwidth Management
18-5
Table 18-2 Media Bandwidth Management Priorities
Priority Levels: Traffic with a higher priority gets through faster while traffic with a lower priority is
dropped if the network is congested.
High
Typically used for voice traffic or video that is especially sensitive to jitter (jitter is the
variations in delay).
Mid
Typically used for “excellent effort” or better than best effort and would include important
business traffic that can tolerate some delay.
Low
This is typically used for non-critical “background” traffic such as bulk transfers that are
allowed but that should not affect other applications and users.
18.1.6 Bandwidth Management Services
The following is a description of the services that you can select and apply media bandwidth management to
in BW Setup.
Xbox Live
This is Microsoft’s online gaming service that lets you play multiplayer Xbox games on the Internet
via broadband technology. Xbox Live uses port 3074.
VoIP (SIP)

SIP is transported primarily over UDP but can also be transported over TCP, using the default port

FTP
File Transfer Program enables fast transfer of files, including large files that may not be possible by
e-mail. FTP uses port number 21.

Electronic mail consists of messages sent through a computer network to specific groups or
individuals. Here are some default ports for e-mail:
POP3 - port 110
IMAP - port 143
SMTP - port 25
