3. Using the spinner control provided, adjust the Number of Slots to 4096, the
maximum supported by major backup application software for a single virtual
library (
C
above).
In most cases, set the slot number to the maximum value. Once a library is defined,
you cannot change the number of slots that it contains, so it makes sense to set this
number as high as possible.
However, if you have to emulate a particular physical library (such as an IBM3590)
rather than the Sun VTL library type, exercise care when changing the number of
slots (or any other library properties). From an application or client point of view,
virtual and physical instances of a given library type should generally be
functionally identical. If they are not, clients and applications may behave in
unanticipated ways.
Finally, if you set up multiple libraries, you will not be able to create more than
65536 tapes per VTL server node, regardless of the number of slots and libraries
configured.
