CHAPTER 1 • USING THE CLICK 500

DIP Switches

The left side of the device features two rows of DIP switches used to set device configura-

tion.

Memory

The Click 500 has two 512 K SRAM devices and one 512 K flash device accessible by the

Click 500 processor. Certain portions of these memory devices are not available to the de-

veloper. See Chapter 10 for more information about the onboard memory devices and how

to effectively manage your memory use.

Note

If your application need gigabytes of non-volatile memory storage, consider using
a serial data logger with a compact flash drive. Attach the data logger to one of the
four serial ports on the Click 500.

Real-time Clock

The real-time clock on the Click 500 has a backup battery in order to maintain time in the

event of a power outage. This clock will accurately keep track of time through the year 2047.

However, like a wristwatch, this clock can drift forward and backward by several seconds

per day, so depending upon your application, you may need to synchronize the clock.

Connecting Power

The Click 500 requires between 10V and 30V to be connected to the +DC and -DC pins on

the T-bus; the recommended voltage is 24V. The easiest way to connect power to the T-bus

is to use a Click 201/202/204 AC to DC power supply (see Figure 1.2).
