Faxing
Paper Size and Type
Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Cassette when you print the fax.

If you want to receive only faxes automatically with your machine, or you have a
dedicated telephone line for fax use only:

If you receive mainly voice calls and sometimes faxes, or you want to receive faxes
manually:

If you want to receive voice messages on your answering machine and receive faxes
automatically:
z
If you want to receive faxes automatically as well as voice calls:
z
If you have subscribed to a Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) service with your
telephone company (US and Canada only):
z
If you want your machine to automatically switch between fax and voice calls by the call
ring patterns (Network Switch) (This setting is not available in some countries and
regions.):

You have to connect a telephone to the External Device Jack when you set

You have to connect an answering machine to the External Device Jack when you set

Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

If the paper size is set to a setting other than
be printed, and the LCD will display

If a size of paper other than A4, 8.5 x 11 or 8.5 x 14 is loaded in the paper source specified
under [Feed Switch], only one sheet of the loaded paper is printed and
11 or 8.5 x 14 then press [OK].

The auto feed function can be applied when the paper size for both paper sources is set to
“About the Auto Sheet Feeder and Cassette” on page 24
.
Note
If the sender sent documents larger than letter-size (8.5" x 11"), such as 11" x 17" or legal-size
(8.5" x 14"), the sender’s machine may send the fax, automatically shrinking or dividing it, or
send only a part of the original.
