If you wish to replace an IC separating column by a column of the same

type, proceed as follows:

1 Remove old column

• Switch off high-pressure pump and wait for pressure to drop.
• With column heating: screw off knurled screws 116, remove

cover 117.

• Screw off the column connection capillaries (both sides) from

the column or precolumn.

2 Connect new column to injection valve

• Remove end caps from column 113.
• Screw inlet end of column 113 (observe flow direction) onto

column inlet capillary 47/110 or onto the precolumn (see

Section 2.8.1).

3 Rinse column

• Place beaker beneath the column outlet.
• Switch on high-pressure pump and rinse column with eluent

for approx. 10 min, then switch off pump.

4 Connect column to detector block

• Screw outlet end of column 113 onto column outlet capillary

(depends on Version: 122(2.844.0010/2.844.0110), 123

(2.844.0020/2.844.0120) or

124 (2.844.0030/2.844.0130)).

Changing the separation system
If you wish to replace an IC separating column by a column of a diffe-

rent type, proceed as follows:

1 Remove old column

• Switch off high-pressure pump and wait for pressure to drop.
• With column heating: screw off knurled screws 116, remove

cover 117.

• Screw off the column connection capillaries (both sides) from

the column or precolumn.

2 Rinse with eluent

• Place a beaker beneath column inlet capillary 47/110.
• If the new eluent is not miscible with the previous eluent then

you must rinse the IC system for approx. 15 min with a

solvent in which both the eluents are miscible.

• Rinse the IC system for approx. 15 min with the eluent

required for the column that is later to be used (flow rate

1 mL/min).

3 Connect new column to injection valve

• Remove end caps from column 113.
• Screw inlet end of column 113 (observe flow direction) onto

column inlet capillary47/110 or onto the precolumn (see

Section 2.8.1).
