I/O ScannerĆMessage Handling Module

Chapter 2

2Ć4

Now that you are aware of the 1775-S4B scanner’s hardware components,
this section summarizes the basic features and functions of the I/O
scanner-message handling module:

Features

Functions

Four I/O communication

channels

To communicate with I/O Adapter Modules (cat. no. 1771ĆAS) in

I/O chassis. You can connect up to 16 I/O chassis to one

1775ĆS4B scanner I/O channel. The 1775ĆS4B scanner can

communicate with 2,048 inputs and 2,048 outputs per scanner

total.

Report generation channel

To communicate with an RSĆ232ĆC compatible data terminal for

report generation. You can execute messages from your data

terminal or from a MSG instruction in the ladder diagram

program.

Status indicators

To keep you informed on the 1775ĆS4B scanner's status. These

LEDs indicate the general module status and the active state of

each I/O communication channel.

Thumbwheel switch

To distinguish one 1775ĆS4B scanner from another. You can

insert up to 15 1775ĆS4B scanners in one PLCĆ3 system.

Terminal swing arm

To easily connect bulletin 1771 I/O chassis to the 1775ĆS4B

scanner. The terminal swing arm disconnects so you can easily

attach Twinaxial Cable (cat. no. 1770ĆCD). An I/O chassis can

connect to a 1775ĆS4B scanner up to 10,000 cable feet away.

Location

Single slot in a PLC-3 processor chassis
