Sew the overcasting along the edge of the fabric with the
needle dropping off the edge of the fabric at the right.

Before sewing an appliqué, attach it to the fabric either with
adhesive or by basting it. Sew the zigzag stitch so that the
needle drops off the edge of the appliqué.

Fold over the desired width of the top fabric and position it over
the lower fabric. Then, sew the zigzag stitch so that the stitching
bridges both pieces of fabric.
