5 Managing Business Copy Z pairs
This chapter provides instructions for completing BC Z pair user tasks using the RWC and information
on ATTIME Suspend using BCM.
Workflow for managing Business Copy Z pairs
During most pair user tasks, the P-VOL remains available to the host for I/O operations. You must
have Storage Administrator (Local Copy) role to complete BC Z pair user tasks.
Use the following workflow to complete pair user tasks:
1.
Check the pair status (see
“BC Z pair status checks” (page 37)
).
For more information about the required status for pair user tasks, see
.
2.
Create the BC Z pairs (see
“BC Z pair creation” (page 38)
).
3.
(Optional) Suspend the BC Z pair creation.
For more information about suspending BC Z pair creating, see
4.
(Optional) Suppress update copy operations during pair restoration (see
copy operations during pair restoration” (page 61)
).
5.
Split the pairs. You can do the following:
•
Split BC Z pairs (see
“Splitting BC Z pairs” (page 50)
).
•
Split BC Z pairs in a CG (see
“Workflow for consistency group pair-split” (page 52)
).
6.
Resynchronize or restore the BC Z pairs (see
“Resynchronizing or restoring BC Z pairs”
).
7.
(Optional) If you have performed a Quick Resync on the pair (“DUPLEX” status), suppress copy
processing (see
“Suppressing update copy operations during pair restoration” (page 61)
).
8.
Delete the BC Z pairs, which ends the pair relationship between the pair volumes (see
).
In Business Copy Z, it might take a lot of time before a copy operation starts. This is because before
a copy operation starts, differential tables are initialized for the relevant pairs, one pair after
another, within the system. Especially when the pairs use a large volume of data, initialization can
be a very long process.
