Consistency group pair user tasks using IBM PPRC
With IBM PPRC, you can set up, split, resynchronize, and delete pairs in a CG, which performs
the user task on all the pairs at the same time.
Workflow for assigning pairs to consistency groups
You can use RAID Manager or BCM/IBM PPRC commands to assign multiple BC Z pairs to a CG.
This workflow describes how to assign pairs to CGs using BCM/IBM PPRC commands.
Use the following workflow to assign pairs to CGs using BCM/IBM PPRC commands:
1.
If you plan to use CGs in BCM/IBM PPRC, in the RWC, reserve a CG for BC Z so that you
can perform tasks on the pairs in the group, such as CG pair-split. Otherwise, skip this step.
For more information about reserving CGs, see
“Workflow for managing CG IDs for Business
2.
Create the pairs. To do this, run one of the following commands:
•
(For PPRC) CESTPAIR
•
(For PPRCOPY) PPRCOPY ESTPAIR
For more information, see
“Creating pairs with CESTPAIR and PPRCOPY ESTPAIR” (page 92)
3.
In the RWC, in the CTG window, ensure that the pairs are assigned to the CG as expected.
The pairs are assigned to the CG.
Splitting pairs in consistency groups
Split pairs in the CG so that hosts can access the S-VOL.
1.
Run one of the following commands on the pair:
•
(For PPRC) CSUSPEND
•
(For PPRCOPY) PPRCOPY SUSPEND
All of the pairs in the CG are split (“Split/SUSPOP” status).
2.
Check the pair status to make sure the pair is split (“Split/SUSPOP” status). To do this, run
one of the following commands:
•
(For PPRC) CQUERY
•
(For PPRCOPY) PPRCOPY QUERY
Resynchronizing pairs in consistency groups
1.
Resynchronize the pair. To do this, run one of the following commands:
•
(For PPRC) CESTPAIR
•
(For PPRCOPY) PPRCOPY ESTPAIR
All of the pairs in the CG are resynchronized.
2.
Check the pair status. To do this, run one of the following commands:
•
(For PPRC) CQUERY
•
(For PPRCOPY) PPRCOPY QUERY
The XP7 storage system checks the pair status to make sure that it has changed to “PENDING”
or “DUPLEX”.
Workflow for deleting pairs in consistency groups
Use the following workflow to delete all of the pairs in the CG.
