Check your Ethernet cable type and connections. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for LAN
connection instructions.

Cannot access
the ZyWALL
from the LAN.

Make sure the computer’s Ethernet adapter is installed and functioning properly.

Check the 10M/100M LAN LEDs on the front panel. One of these LEDs should be on. If
they are both off, check the cables between your ZyWALL and hub or the station.

Cannot ping
any computer
on the LAN.

Verify that the IP address and the subnet mask of the ZyWALL and the computers are
on the same subnet.

Problems with the WAN Interface

PROBLEM CORRECTIVE

ACTION

The ISP provides the WAN IP address after authentication. Authentication may be through
the user name and password, the MAC address or the host name. Use the following
corrective actions to make sure the ISP can authenticate your connection.

You need a username and password if you’re using PPPoE or PPTP encapsulation. Make
sure that you have entered the correct Service Type, User Name and Password (the
user name and password are case sensitive). Refer to the WAN Screens chapter (web
configurator) or the Internet Access chapter (SMT).

If your ISP requires MAC address authentication, you should clone the MAC address from
your computer on the LAN as the ZyWALL’s WAN MAC address. Refer to the WAN
Screens
chapter (web configurator) or the WAN and Dial Backup Setup chapter (SMT). It
is recommended that you clone your computer’s MAC address, even if your ISP presently
does not require MAC address authentication.

Cannot get
WAN IP
address from
the ISP.

If your ISP requires host name authentication, configure your computer’s name as the
ZyWALL’s system name. Refer to the Wizard Setup chapter (web configurator) or the
General Setup chapter (SMT).
