Matte Wash
You can produce a matte with graduated shading between two or
three colors, called a matte wash. This effect works well as a
background for keys and digital effects. As an example, two
methods are given below for creating a “sunset” wash:
Matte Wash Method 1
1.
Select Transition
[BKGD]
and
[WIPE]
.
2.
Select wipe pattern 0 (second pattern from left in the top row
of patterns) and
[REVERSE]
. All other wipe modifiers should be
off for now.
3.
Move the lever arm to about mid-travel to advance the wipe
about half way up the screen.
4.
Select the Bkgd matte
[CROSSPOINT]
on the PGM bus, and set
the Matte controls for a dark blue color at the top of the screen.
5.
Select a Matte
[CROSSPOINT]
on the PST bus, and set the matte
controls for a reddish-brown color at the bottom of the screen.
6.
Select the Pattern
[WIPE]
button. Turn on the
[BORDER]
button,
and set the pattern edge
(WIDTH)
control for a 1-inch wipe
border. Use the Matte controls to make the border yellow.
7.
Turn on the Pattern
[SOFT]
button, and adjust pattern edge
(SOFTNESS)
to soften the entire screen. This completes the wash
effect. You can use the downstream keyer to key over the top
of the wash.
