segment

Portion of a LAN. In 10B

ASE

2 systems, a seg-

ment is limited to 185 meters and 30 nodes.
However, segments can be joined by repeat-
ers.

sequencing

Command used in connection with Jupiter
for single-command switching of one or
more sources to one or more destinations.

server

1. Hardware: a computer that provides
shared services to other computers over a
network; e.g., a file server.

2. Software: a program that provides data to
client programs in the same or other comput-
ers. In Jupiter systems, a “JNS server” (soft-
ware) is said to run on a “file server”
(hardware).

In a matrix router, a display indicating what
source is currently switched to a given desti-
nation.

sticky

Retaining a control panel selection after a
Take command has been executed, e.g., con-
tinuing to perform video-only switching un-
til the operator returns to all-level switch
mode.

Source swap

If source swap mode is ON, the display windows
will return to the previously-selected source
after each Take. This permits flip-flop switching.
