LABEL LAYOUT
The MCE 300, when used with an optional tractor feed printer, can print information onto self-
adhesive labels which can be affixed to cards for identification purposes. Up to two rows of 26
characters can be printed on each label. Labels can contain constant information which appears
the same on each label (e.g. Company Name, CARD, VEHICLE, etc.) and variable numeric data
which is obtained from the card data file and used for unique identification (e.g. card number,
vehicle number, etc.). Switch 7 on the microprocessor PCB must be in the ON or CLOSED
position to enable the label feature. If labels are desired, the following information must be
loaded:
LABEL LAYOUT
The label layout is used to determine which card characters should be transferred to the
label.
1-9
Transfer character. The associated card layout character should be transferred to the label.
It is recommended that a set of numbers be used for each field that is to be transferred to the
label (e.g., Four 1's may be used to identify a four digit card number that is to be transferred
to the label).
X
Non-transfer character. The associated card layout character should not be transferred to
the label.
FORMAT
The format determines the arrangement of the constant and transfer characters. A label can
contain a maximum of two lines of 26 characters; however, this may need to be shortened to
accommodate some printers that do not have adjustable left margins or adjustable tractors.
1-9
Transfer character. Numeric characters are used to transfer data from the card data file to
the label. When loading the format you should indicate the location of the character to be
transferred. The same number and type of transfer characters that appear on the label
layout should appear in the format.
A-Z, Punctuation
Constant character. Alpha characters and punctuation can be used on each label. Numeric
characters may not be used as constant characters.
CARDS PER LINE
The number of cards per line that will appear in the P (print card data) command can be loaded.
This is useful when it is desired to print more than 50 cards per page (the P command prints 50
lines per page). The unit is capable of printing from one to nine cards per line; however, you
should not set the unit to print more cards than will fit on one line.
