There is only one way you can hook up a Telephone Answering Device (TAD) on the fax phone line.
The TAD must be plugged into the back of the fax machine in the jack labeled EXT.
Your
fax machine can not work properly if you plug the TAD into a wall jack. Follow these steps:
1.
Plug the telephone line cord from the wall jack into the back of the fax machine in the jack
labeled
LINE.
2.
Plug the telephone line cord from your TAD into the back of the fax machine in the j ack labeled
EXT.
(Double check that the telephone line cord comes from the jack in the TAD for telephone
line and not for telephone set.)
3. Put your fax machine in TAD mode by turning both the AUTO and F/T lights on.
4. Set your TAD to 4 rings or less. (The fax machine’s Ring Delay setting does not apply).

The TAD’S outgoing message is important because it must be set up to handle two kinds of fax
receptions: automatic and manual. Timing is important.
1.
Record 5 seconds of silence as the beginning of your message. (Your fax machine will be able
to hear the fax calling tones, of automatic fax transmissions, before they stop.)
2. Limit your speaking to 20 seconds.
