Chapter 4 Install the system

Welch Allyn Wireless Acuity LT Central Monitoring System

3.

In every patient room, every patient bathroom and each area where you require
network coverage (including all areas that might have considerable obstruction, such
as behind three or more walls or behind stairwells, take the following steps:

a.

Wait at least 10 seconds to make sure that the RSSI is updated, and then note the
RSSI number. The RSSI updates every 10 seconds.

b.

Check the RSSI in all four corners of each location.

c.

On Your facility’s RSSI measurement chart form, record the highest RSSI.

4.

If you find that the RSSI is > 50, take the following steps:

a.

Consider possible obstructions, as described on

page 8

.

b.

Reposition the nearest AP and SD antenna.

Place APs close enough together to allow overlapping coverage and prevent gaps
in network coverage. The APs should at least 6 feet apart, but no more than 40
feet apart.

Position the SD antenna horizontally at the ceiling, and position the whip antenna
vertically on the AP. The AP data cable should have at least 15 feet of extra length
to allow you to reposition it; it might be coiled above the ceiling.

c.

Repeat the RSSI testing until you are satisfied that you have identified the best
location for each AP.

If you still have areas in your facility where the RSSI is too high, your facility might
have obstructions that necessitate additional APs for your wireless Acuity LT
System (up to a maximum total of 7 APs). To purchase additional APs, see

“To

order additional APs”

on page 59.

d.

Attach the “Your facility’s RSSI measurement” chart to the “Final system check
for the Acuity LT System” table.

Your final system operation check is complete!
