Glossary
A
application
A client of a storage system, or a consumer of a storage service.
application server
A system that is hosting one or more applications and is running an operating system optimized
for hosting applications. Storage may be direct attached (such as a storage server) or networked.
C
catalog
The repository of service requests, services, service groups, and resources managed by SPM.
See also Storage catalog.
constraint
Constraints are the properties used to describe a storage volume to be matched to storage requests
or goals, and are used to filter the available storage volumes. Constraint types are tags, RAID
level, storage capacity, presentation, and capabilities.
HP Command
View EVA
CV is a comprehensive software suite designed to simplify array management and provisioning
for the high performance HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family of storage arrays.
E
HP Enterprise
Virtual Arrays
EVA disk array provides designed-in virtualization to support your most critical applications as
well as your bulk storage needs.
H
HP Insight
Orchestration
HPIO was the previous product name for the infrastructure orchestration capability now bundled
with HP Insight Dynamics. It provides rapid provisioning and repurposing of infrastructure services
from shared resource pools using a self-service portal.
HP Operation
Orchestration
OO provides a comprehensive solution to Automate incident resolution, change orchestration
and routine maintenance tasks in your data center. HP Insight Dynamics with infrastructure
orchestration has an embedded version of OO to take advantage of the OO workflow engine
capabilities.

Provisioning
Manager
SPM, the software application described in this document.
L
logical disk
A partition or logical disk that may contain a file system or database or be used by a volume
manager or hypervisor to present higher order volumes. Volumes are backed by capacity that
has been carved from lower level capacity meaning that the source of the capacity has been
identified. In SPM a volume is a type of service.
See also volume..
logical unit
The entity within a SCSI target that executes I/O commands. Each logical unit exported by an
array controller corresponds to a volume.
logical unit number
A LUN is an address used in the SCSI protocol to access an array within a target. In the case of
SPM, a LUN refers to a volume that has been presented to one or more initiators. SPM also
supports unpresented volumes which have been created but do not have LUNs.
R
RAID
A Redundant Array of Independent Disks is a RAID. A RAID volume consists of more than one
drive, but appears to the operating system to be a single logical disk. RAID improves performance
by disk striping, which involves partitioning each drive's storage space into units. By placing
data on multiple disks, I/O operations can overlap in a balanced way, improving performance.
resource
A storage catalog entity representing a storage resource. A resource provides a set of services.
