3.

Click the Yes button in the verification dialog box.

Managing goals

A goal represents a request for a single volume service. Each goal contains a list of constraints
(requirements) that describe the storage selected from the catalog, as well as service delivery
requirements in the case of the presentation constraint.

Creating a new goal

Service requests contain one or more goals. To create a new goal:
1.

From the Navigation tree, expand Service Requests.

2.

Select the appropriate service request to which you are adding a goal, then click the Actions
New Goal button. (Alternatively, right-click the service request and select New Goal.)

The goal-specific New Goal dialog box opens.

3.

Enter a description of the goal in the Description field.

4.

Click the Add button.

The newly created entry displays in blue in the Constraints table. The default is set to Tag and
Required.

5.

Use the list in the Constraint Type column to select the type of constraint to create.

Options are Tag, RAID, Capacity, Presentation, and Capabilities.

NOTE:

Constraints describe the properties of a storage volume that is the best fit for the

storage request and goals. These settings are used to filter the available storage volumes.
When fulfilling goals, storage volumes that match the constraints are suggested for fulfillment,
appearing on the Suggested Services tab. Those that do not match the constraints are listed
on the All Unbound Services tab but can be chosen to fulfill the goal. In that case, the fulfillment
is considered Nonconforming. See

Fulfilling a goal

. Keep this in mind when setting constraints.

6.

Select the appropriate Requirement Type from the list:

Select Shall not when requiring volume services that do not contain the specified property.

Select Required when requiring volume services that do contain the specified property.
