Suggested action–If suitable storage is not in the catalog, the storage administrator must create/zone
appropriate storage and make it available in the catalog. Unfulfilled requests are easily visible
and can be manually or automatically fulfilled. If you believe the storage catalog contains suitable
storage that is not being returned as matching candidates, consider the following:

Check the requirements specified in the logical server storage pool entry (size, redundancy,
fabric, tags).

The Fabric Name must be an exact match to the SAN ID values in SPM; check and adjust if
necessary.

Tag values must be an exact match between the logical server storage pool entry and SPM;
check and adjust if necessary.

The Masked checkbox on the storage pool entry screen should be selected. You may later
clear it for data volumes prior to OS deployment, or infrastructure orchestration may clear it
for you, but it should be selected initially to find candidate volumes to bind.

The Presentation checkboxes on the volume in SPM should be selected and should have
appropriate SAN ID and port values, or the catalog entry should provide permissions for the
presentation to be modified.

Another storage pool entry may have bound to the storage volumes you intended to use; check
and either get additional storage or unbind that storage it if was mistakenly bound. The SPM
service needs to be running.

Check if the administrator has left the host mode as unspecified in the storage pool entry. If
so, Insight Dynamics will match for storage which can support all possible host modes, including
Windows 2008. It is recommended to specify a host mode and if the storage pool entry is
using the SPM storage catalog, the storage administrator may have enabled the ability to
adjust host mode as necessary. Alternatively, ensure the storage volumes in SPM support all
possible host modes, including Windows 2008.

The SPM Fulfillment screen can provide additional details, including the ability to browse all
unbound volumes and see an evaluation of how they match to the specific requirements of
the storage request. The administrator can force a binding within SPM even if all requirements
are not met, creating a Nonconforming fulfillment.

Error when binding volume

Symptom–When saving a storage pool entry with request binding selected and candidate volumes
selected, you get an error message.
Possible cause–HP Insight Dynamics must communicate with the HP Storage Provisioning Manager
to bind the selected volumes to the storage pool entry. It is possible HP Insight Dynamics cannot
communicate with SPM, or SPM cannot communicate with the lower layers of the solution stack.
The storage volume may require automated changes to host mode or LUN masking to be suitable
for that storage pool entry.
Suggested action–Verify the SPM service is running and that the appropriate Command View
credentials have been provided.

Cannot communicate with array or import storage volumes

provides

information on validating the port being used by Command View and examining the SPM logs
for more details.

Backup and recovery

If SPM storage has been provisioned or otherwise altered after CMS is restored, catalog corruption
is possible. To avoid corruption, enable SPM recovery mode (which disables automation), refresh
catalog resources from the physical devices, manually recreate all changes to the catalog since
the backup, then disable SPM recovery mode. For complete instructions, see the current version
of Backing up and restoring HP Insight Software Central Management System (Windows) at
