APPLICATION OF LOCTITE FORM-IN-PLACE GASKET #549
WHERE TO USE
Bearing area between differential carrier and axle housing.
Other use according to SOMA Engineenng recommendation.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRODUCT
Color: dark red.
Adhesive power important: Do not use on the centering (only on the bearing areas) never
on parts with thin section.
Temperature: resistance from — 55° C to + 150° C.
Use with precaution: avoid all contact with the skin,
do not smoke.
O.E.M. INSTALLATION
Clean and degrease carefully with a solvent. Note that grease prevents polymerisation of
the sealant, thus renders the gasket useless.
Let evaporate.
Apply on the axle housing bearing area, a single continuous bead of Loctite 549 by going
around all bolt holes. (thickness of the sealant bead: 1 mm max.), or coat the banjo face with a
roller.
Assemble the differential carrier with the banjo and torque bolts according to type of axle.
Let dry: possible handling after 4 hours,
total polymerisation after 24 hours.
To reduce the polymerisation time, spray Locquic T on the banjo bearing area, let
evaporate, then apply Loctite 549.
All bolts must be tightened within ten minutes following the assembly: starting forty five
minutes after assembly.
MAINTENANCE
Disassemble: generally a sideways tap or rotation will break the seal.
Clean excess material off the surface and degrease.
Reapply Loctite 549 as described for O.E.M. installation.
