LUBRICATION OF THE OIL SEALS BEFORE FITTING

All oil seals must be lubricated to avoid dry working at the start of each operation. In every
case, the internal face of the oil seals must be greased before fitting.
Oil seals with single lip: grease the internal face and lip.
Oil seals with two lips: grease the internal face and pack grease between the two lips.
Two oil seals: fitted together.
The second oil seal must be greased before fitting and the area between the two oil seal lips
filled with grease.
Recommended Grease
Check the compatibility of the grease with the lubricant of the axle and both with the seal
material.
Consistency Grade NLGI 2.
Penetration at 25°C (tenths of millimetre):265 to 295 ASTM worked (60 strokes).
Flash point: 185°C mini.
Chemical composition: mettalic soap (lithium) - Mineral oil
Additives for oxidation resistance and protection against corrosion.
Oxidation resistance: fall of pressure after:
100 h: 0.3 to 0.4 kg/cm
2 max.
400 h: 1 kg/cm 2 (1.4 accepted).
Corrosion with polished copper level 1a (1b accepted).
Corrosion EMCOR: level 0 (1 accepted).
