1 LUBRICATION OF THE STEERING PARTS
To be done according to specification STB 1-306
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE CARDAN JOINT SPHERICAL SHELL
Apply at the bottom of the bore a single continuous bead of silicone (corrosion protection
of the bore).
Apply on the nut thread, silicone sealant on a complete thread (locking if the nut).
Tighten the nut to the torque:
PDI 25: 78,5 N.m (8 mkg) 57.86 foot pounds
PDI 35: 78,5 N.m (8 mkg) 57.86 foot pounds
PDI 50: 147,1 N.m (15 mkg) 108 foot pounds
PDI 65: 147,1 N.m (15 mkg) 108 foot pounds
3 LOWER ADJUSTMENT
The lower adjustment with shims ensure the alignment of the pivot and axle housing
spheres middles.
Lower adjustment: A = X-(Y + Z).
4 UPPER ADJUSTMENT
The upper adjustment ensures that the bearings are properly preloaded.
Apply the proper preload to the trunnion and measure the thickness of shim B by direct
reading.
Consult SOMA OF AMERICA for proper preload.
5 FINAL ASSEMBLY
Tightening torque of the cap or lever screws.
PDI 25: screws M 16p 150: 294 to 314 N.m (30 to 32 mkg) (216 to 231 Ft. Lbs.).
PDD 35: screws M 20 p 150: 736 N.m (75 mkg) (542 Ft. Lbs.).
PDD 50: screws M 24 p 200: 1226 to 1275 N.m (120 to 130 mkg) (904 to 940 Ft. Lbs.).
PDI 65: screws M 24 p 200: 1226 to 1275 N.m (120 to 130 mkg) (904 to 940 Ft. Lbs.).
