NOT ENOUGH BACKLASH:
MOVE THE RING GEAR AWAY
If tooth contact occurs as illustrated above, the ring gear
must be moved away from the pinion by increasing the
longitudinal bearing. This movement will change the con-
tact on the profile and an adjustment of the pinio will be
necessary.
A. Profile contact adjustment
B. Increase longitudinal bearing
2.
TOO MUCH BACKLASH:
MOVE THE RING GEAR IN
If the bearing on the profile seems to be too low at any
point of the tooth length, the bevel pinion must be moved
away from the ring gear and the ring gear must be brought
closer to the bevel pinion, so that the backlash remains
correct.
A. Profile contact adjustment
B. Increase longitudinal bearing
DIFFERENTIAL CARRIERS 300 - 500 - 1000
3.
PINION ENGAGED TOO MUCH:
ADD ADJUSTMENT SHIMS
Where the tooth bearing is as above illustration the ring
gear should be moved towards the pinion by increasing
the longitudinal bearing, this would change to a slight ex-
tent the bearing on the profile and it will be necessary to
readjust the pinion.
A. Raise the profile contact
B. Backlash adjustment
4.
PINION TOO FAR:
REMOVE ADJUSTMENT SHIMS
If the bearing on the profile seems to be too high at any
point, the ring gear must be moved away from the pinion
to maintain the backlash it will then be necessary to read-
just the bevel pinion.
A. Lower the profile contact
B. Backlash adjustment
