General Setup Procedure

The following is a general setup procedure for connecting the Eicon 1550/1551 to a
LAN.

1.

Connect the power adapter and VHSI cable as described in

Step 1: Connect the

Cables

on page 14.

2.

Using an Ethernet crossover cable (sold separately), connect the Eicon 1550/1551
to your network hub, if available. If your hub has an uplink or cascade port, you can
also use a standard Ethernet cable (included).

3.

To see if the Ethernet connection is working, check that the appropriate Ethernet
light on the Eicon 1550/1551 is on (the power adapters for both devices must be
plugged in).

4.

Change your IP settings as described in

Important Points

on page 30. Force your

computer to request a new IP address automatically, or change your IP address
manually, depending on your situation. Restart your computer if required.

5.

Launch your web browser. Click ‘File’, ‘Open’. Enter 192.168.1.1 and click ‘OK’.

6.

You should see the ‘Log in’ page. Without entering a password, click ‘Log in’. By
default, the Eicon 1550/1551 has no password.

Note:

If you do not see the ‘Log in’ page, check your TCP/IP settings. Restart your

computer if required. If you still cannot connect to the Eicon 1550/1551, connect the
Eicon 1550/1551 directly to a single computer for initial configuration, as described
at the beginning of this chapter.

7.

If required, modify the Eicon 1550/1551’s LAN IP address to suit your LAN
configuration needs. See

Changing the Eicon 1550/1551 LAN IP Address (if

required)

below.

If required, disable the Eicon 1550/1551’s DHCP server. This ensures that the Eicon
1550/1551 will not respond to DHCP requests. See

Disabling DHCP (if required)

on page 34.

8.

You may then continue modifying WAN settings as described earlier in this chapter,
starting with

Step 3: Select the VHSI Protocol

on page 19.

Changing the Eicon 1550/1551 LAN IP Address (if required)

The LAN IP address should be changed if:

You have an existing DHCP server: In this case, you must change the Eicon

1550/1551’s IP address so it is outside the range of dynamically assigned ones, or
you must reserve the address.
