Chapter 6. ETHERNET
MANAGEMENT
6.1
Introduction
The CDM-740 Advanced Satellite Modem is equipped with an RJ-45, 10/100 BaseT Ethernet
management interface, labeled FE, that is used for monitor and control purposes.
This chapter provides a high-level overview of the functionality provided by this interface, and
references other chapters in this manual for further details.
6.2
Ethernet Management Interface Protocols
The modem’s 10/100BaseT Ethernet Management (FE) Interface supports three (3) different
management protocols:
• SNMP with public and private MIB;
• Telnet interface for remote product M&C;
• Web Server interface for complete product management.
6.3
SNMP Interface
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application-layer protocol designed to
facilitate the exchange of management information between network devices. The CDM-740
SNMP agent supports both SNMPv1 and v2c.
IMPORTANT
For proper SNMP operation, the CDM-740 MIB files must be used with the
associated version of the CDM-740 modem M&C. Please refer to the CDM-740
FW Release Notes for information on the required FW/SW compatibility.
