2.2.3
Class 1 / Class 2
Most internal and external serial modems use the Class 1 or Class 2 command
set.
2.2.3.1
Configuring NET SatisFAXtion to use a Class 1 or Class 2 device
NET SatisFAXtion can use most Class 1 or Class 2 fax modems to send and re-
ceive faxes.
Class 1 or Class 2 devices are initially configured in
Re-Detect Fax Devices
. En-
sure that the modem’s drivers are already installed and Windows has detected
them. Configured modems will be listed in Window’s
Phone and Modem Op-
tions
control panel.
Modems cannot be shared between applications, so ensure that no other tele-
phony application is installed on the fax server. If there are other applications
using the modems, NET SatisFAXtion will report that it cannot access the de-
vice (“Windows serial device name unknown”). If you have no other telephony
applications installed, check the Remote Access Connection Manager service:
disable it, reboot and try again (Windows will not allow you to manually stop
this service).
