Systems The group of Neoview platforms that are defined but not currently connected. For more
information, see
“Understand My Other Systems ” (page 28) . Contrast with My Active Systems .
navigation tree
pane The left pane of the HP Database Manager interface that displays a tree of the database objects
in a hierarchical form.
“See the Parts of the HPDM Interface” (page 25) shows the navigation
tree pane.
Neoview
platform A data warehousing platform that includes processors, storage, relational database software,
data services software, and professional services dedicated to supporting business intelligence
(BI) solutions.
offending process A process that consumes an excessive amount of CPU or memory resources. The System
Offender
tab displays the processes that consume the most CPU and memory resources. You
control the type and number of processes displayed by setting parameters in the Alter Offending
Parameters
dialog box. See “About System Offender” (page 99) and “Alter System Offender
Parameters” (page 109) .
persistence file A binary file that contains state and user preference information (for example, system definitions,
user-specified options, favorites, and layout information). For more information, see
“Save and
Import System Definitions” (page 39) .
query A request for data from the database; specifically, the execution of a Neoview SQL statement,
which requests columns and rows from one or more tables and views. In the context of the
Neoview optimizer, a query is a request for data access through an DML statement.
right pane The right pane of the HP Database Manager interface displays information about the selected
objects in the navigation tree pane.

segment A subdivision of a Neoview cluster that consists of 16 processing nodes (CPUs). Each segment
has a name (for example, HPQ0101), and the Neoview cluster contains one master segment.
All other segments are considered slave segments.
SQL statement Any DML or DDL statement including, but not limited to SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE,
CREATE, ALTER, DROP, GRANT, and REVOKE. For more information about Neoview SQL
statements, see the Neoview SQL Reference Manual.
SQL Whiteboard A utility that allows you to enter and execute SQL statements from within HPDM. For more
information, see
“About the SQL Whiteboard” (page 117) .
system The user view of a system definition.
system definition A user-named set of all of the information required to construct an ODBC connection string:
server data source, username, password, server IP address or DNS name, port number, default
schema, and ODBC driver version. The header displays the system definition. See
“See the
HPDM Header” (page 32) .
system monitor The system monitor is a tool within HPDM that displays status and performance data for the
Neoview platform. The displayed status and performance data includes seven performance
metrics and four system status icons. See
“Display the System Monitor” (page 77) .
System Offender System Offender is a tool within HPDM that allows you to monitor system resources and detect
processes or queries that use excessive CPU resources or memory. System Offender is a tab
within the Monitoring area of HPDM. See
“About System Offender” (page 99) .
Systems Tool The tool used to define, add, edit, remove, duplicate, test, and open a connection with a Neoview
platform. The Systems Tool is available from the Tools menu.
TDM_Default_
DataSource One of two default data sources for the Neoview platform. TDM_Default_DataSource is the
default data source for database access. You cannot delete TDM_Default_DataSource, but you
can configure other data sources. Contrast with
Admin_Load_DataSource .
