Stopping the SMF Subsystem
This deletes the VDP, but leaves the file labels for the five VDP catalog files orphaned.
For each physical file issue this command:
SMFIXUP PURGE physical-file
When the VDP is deleted using the IGNOREINCONSISTENCY option (in G-series) or
the ! option (in D-series), the SAFE.GUARD file is closed by the VDP. The physical
SAFE.GUARD file can be purged using:
SMFIXUP PURGE physical-file (for SAFE.GUARD)
Also, when the IGNOREINCONSISTENCY or ! option is used to delete the VDP, the
catalog files are not deleted. If the same catalog files are used to define a new VDP
with the same name, and the physical SAFE.GUARD is purged prior to starting the
VDP, the ANT entry for SAFE.GUARD will be automatically removed by VDP. If VDP
fails to remove the ANT entry, you must use SMFIXUP ZOT to remove the ANT entry
for SAFE.GUARD.
You can also use the SMDELVDP macro to delete VDPs on the system by issuing the
following command:
TACL 1>RUN SMDELVDP $VDP
SMDELVDP is a macro incorporated in SMUTIL (T8469H01^ADG). This macro deletes
the VDP along with its SAFE.GUARD and catalog files. It takes VDP name(s) as input
and deletes the catalog files after deleting the VDP. One or more VDP names can be
given as input separated by a space.
Stopping the SMF Subsystem
It might be necessary to shut down the entire SMF subsystem. For example, when it is
necessary to shut down TMF, you should always shut down the SMF subsystem first.
To stop G-series versions of the SMF subsystem, use these SCF commands:
RESET DISK $*, SUB VIRTUAL, FORCED
RESET POOL $*, FORCED
RESET $ZSMS, FORCED
SCF prompts you as to whether or not you really want to stop the process.
Note. The prerequisite for this macro to function is that there should be no user-created files
existing on the VDP.
