1 Palm-SPEC Introduction
The following chapter contains introductory information about the Palm-SPEC Pocket PC-based
Spectrophotometer, shipment information, and documentation.
Product Overview
The Palm-SPEC Pocket PC-based Spectrophotometer features a Pocket PC-based handheld computer coupled
with an Ocean Optics USB2000 Spectrometer in a customized optical bench to create a spectrophotometer
system with a footprint of just 6” x 4.5”. This system, coupled with OOIPS2000 touch-screen sampling software,
provides users with a low-cost, easy-to-use portable spectrophotometric instrument.

System Requirements
The Palm-SPEC system requires the following items:

Ocean Optics Palm-SPEC handheld PC
•
OOIPS2000 touch-screen Operating Software (preloaded onto the handheld PC; also available on the
Software and Technical Resources CD)
•
5V DC power adapter (included)
Shipment Components
The following information and documentation ships with the Palm-SPEC Spectrophotometer:
Packing List
The packing list is inside a plastic bag attached to the outside of the shipment box (the invoice arrives separately).
The packing slip lists all items in the order, including customized components in the spectrometer (such as the
grating, detector collection lens, and slit). The packing list also includes the shipping and billing addresses, as well
as any items on back order.
