3.17.4 Checking and Adjusting the Unit Inlet Gas Supply Pressure

DO NOT adjust or attempt to measure gas valve outlet pressure. The gas valve is factory-set for
the correct outlet pressure. This setting is suitable for natural gas and propane, requiring no field
adjustment. Attempting to alter or measure the gas valve outlet pressure could result in damage
to the valve, causing excessive levels of carbon monoxide.

The gas piping must be sized for the proper flow and length of pipe, to avoid excessive pressure
drop. Both the gas meter and the gas regulator must be properly sized for the total gas load. If
you experience a pressure drop greater than 1” W.C., the meter, regulator, or gas line is
undersized or in need of servicing.

To check the pressure of the inlet gas for this situation, do the following:

Checking the Unit Inlet Gas Supply

1. Refer to Section 4.6 and check the gas supply pressure.

2. If gas supply pressure is within normal range and no adjustments are needed, proceed on to

step 4.

3. If the gas pressure is out of range, contact the gas utility, gas supplier, qualified installer or

service agency to determine the necessary steps to provide proper gas pressure to the
heater.

4. Turn the power switch to the “OFF” position.

5. Shut off the gas supply at the manual gas shut off valve in the gas piping to the appliance.

6. After verifying the correct gas pressures disconnect the manometer, turn the screw in

pressure connection “D” in Figure 3-41, clockwise until snug and check for any gas leaks.
