Appendix A – Quick Start Guide
This 'Quick Start Guide' is intended to provide the minimum amount of information required to install and
commission a PULSAR DLC-XP/RC. It is intended for experienced users only. Novice users should
review the entire manual. The notation 'PULSAR IOM' refers to the PULSAR Installation Operation
Maintenance Instruction Manual provided with your PULSAR metering pump.
Preparing...
1. Review the 'Before You Begin' section and all applicable safety information.
2. Refer to the PULSAR Installation Operation Maintenance Instruction for proper placement of your
pump and related piping. The DLC should be installed in an area protected from direct sunlight and
with an ambient temperature range of 0 - 120 Degrees Fahrenheit (-32 to 50 Centigrade).
3. If your pump was supplied with the motor and DLC pre-installed, skip to the Wiring... section below.
4. Follow the INSTALLATION and EQUIPMENT STARTUP sections of the PULSAR IOM. Be sure
your PULSAR is operating correctly prior to DLC installation.
5. Apply power to the PUMP motor and manually adjust the stroke setting to 0%.
6. Shut off the motor. Disconnect all pump and controller related power at the main.
7. Remove the manual cover by removing the 6 retaining screws and lifting the cover straight up off the
pump.
You are now ready to install the DLC-XP/RC
Installation:
1. Note the position of the adjustment shaft 'T.' It mates with a slot in output shaft -- the only external
moving part on the DLC-XP/RC. The output shaft is connected to the adjustment knob. Familiarize
yourself with these mating components prior to installation.
2. Locate the face on the bottom of the DLC-XP/RC that mates with the face of the lip of the eccentric
box. The DLC-XP/RC is oriented such that the control pad and display sit to the left of the pump's
reagent head (as viewed standing in front of the reagent head looking at the motor). The conduit
connections and access panel (with Serial Tag) reside at the rear of the pump near the gear box.
3. Orient the DLC-XP/RC properly at a comfortable height above the pump and align the slot in the
DLC-XP/RC coupling with the 'T' on the adjustment shaft by turning the black hand knob on the
DLC-XP/RC. Do not turn the 'T!'
4. Lower the DLC-XP/RC onto the eccentric. It may be necessary to tip the DLC-XP/RC slightly
towards the motor to clear the Motor adapter. With the DLC-XP/RC approximately 1 inch (25.4mm)
above the eccentric box, make a fine adjustment to align the DLC-XP/RC coupling with the
adjustment shaft 'T.' Once aligned, lower the DLC-XP/RC to mate with the eccentric box. Do not
force the cover! When the coupling is properly aligned, the DLC-XP/RC will slide home under its
own weight.
5. Install the 4 DLC-XP/RC mounting screws provided. Remove the 4 wiring access panel screws.
