Key benefits
•
Centrally manage connectivity and workloads for hundreds of Virtual Connect Domains and
thousands of HP BladeSystem server blades.
•
The VCEM address repository enables more efficient administration of data and storage
network assignments (MAC and WWN) and eliminates the risk of address conflicts
•
Group-based management of Virtual Connect Domains increases infrastructure consistency,
simplifies system deployment and enables rapid change management across hundreds of HP
BladeSystem enclosures.
•
Add, change, and failover servers and their workloads across the data center in minutes
without impacting production networks.
•
Increase productivity and server-to-administrator ratios.
•
Release LAN and SAN administrators from routine server-centric tasks.
•
Scalable across small and large data centers.
What's new
HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager 7.0 adds new features including:
•
Moving profiles in the same VC Domain Group, or to a different VC Domain Group
•
VCEM managing VC Domains with Expanded VLAN capacity (extended mapped VLAN)
enabled which includes filters for searching networks and VLANs in the VCEM server profile
GUI for all versions of VC firmware.
•
VCEM subrange selection during HP Insight Management DVD installation. When installing
multiple instances of VCEM, such as multi-CMS or HP IO Federated CMS, select from a
predefined list of VCEM subranges for MAC or WWN addresses and VCEM automatically
creates necessary exclusion ranges.
NOTE:
Keep the following in mind:
•
Some VC 3.3x features are not validated when adding a VC 3.3x Domain to a VC Domain
Group such as Login Banner configurations, Network Loop Protection, network labels and
colors, Storage Management Credentials, or Radius/TACACS. VCEM does not require that
the VC Domain configuration match the VC Domain Group. For more information, see
“Requirements for adding a VC Domain to a VC Domain Group” (page 24)
•
Some VC 3.3x features are not replicated when VC Domain maintenance is completed such
as Storage Management Credentials and Radius/TACACS. For more information, see
Platform support
VCEM is supported on most HP BladeSystem c-Class hardware, storage, software, and third-party
operating platforms. For a full list of supported platforms and components, see
.
Product licensing
Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager is licensed per BladeSystem c-Class enclosure, with separate
options for BL-c3000 and BL-c7000 enclosures.
A single VCEM license is required for each enclosure to be managed in both single and
multienclosure domain configurations, and is valid for the life of the associated enclosure.
