About This Manual

IPSetup prepares IPs, RVUs, and SPRs for installation on workstations or NonStop
servers. IPSetup does not install software. For workstations, IPSetup launches the
appropriate workstation installer application after you designate in IPSetup that you are
installing workstation components.

For HP NonStop IP components:

1. You designate IPs, RVUs and SPRs in IPSetup.

2. IPSetup transfers the designated files from their delivery medium (for example,

CD-ROM or DVD) to the NonStop server.

3. IPSetup performs other tasks so the files can be used as a distribution subvolume

(DSV) to be configured by DSM/SCM, or as an installation subvolume (ISV) to be
configured by any other means (for IPs), such as using Install.

IP for the NonStop Server Placement

When an IP containing NonStop components is placed on a CD-ROM or DVD, the
product’s DSV files are transformed into a packed format so they can be transferred
across a network to a NonStop server. This transfer is performed using IPSetup.

Once IPSetup places IP software files on a NonStop system, IPSetup unpacks the files
into their normal DSV format. IPSetup can then move the files from DSVs to ISVs (for
IPs), or the files can be installed using DSM/SCM or other means. You can also FTP
files to the NonStop system but must then use IPSetup to complete placement.

There are two means of running IPSetup for IPs for the NonStop server:

Automated file placement using the IPSetup application. Most users should run the
Windows interface, which prompts you for relevant information and automatically
executes the software placement.

Manual placement using FTP and SETUPRUN. You might do this when system
limitations do not let the Windows application run (for example, TCP/IP is not
available) or when troubleshooting a problem with the interface on your system.
