8.4.1.2 Booting Diagnostics over the Network
To boot the
bos.diag package from a NIM Master, you have to perform the
following steps:
1. Allocate the
spot
resource object to your NIM Client machine (see 9.2.7,
“Allocating Resources for the Stand-Alone Installation” on page 172)
2. Enter the following command:
smitty nim_mac_op
3. When the
Machine Object Name screen appears, select the name that
represents your Client machine.
4. When the
Operation to Perform screen appears, select the diag operation.
5. On the
Enable Diagnostics Boot SMIT screen, press Enter.
6. Power-on the Client machine, and boot from the NIM Master following the steps
explained in 9.3, “Using a PCI-Based RS/6000 Server as a NIM Client” on
page 174.
7. After the Select Display appears, follow the instructions.
Running diagnostics in this mode allows you to test the same resources you could
test when booting from the Stand-alone Diagnostics CD-ROM. In addition, as with
Stand-alone Diagnostics, you will have to configure any ISA adapters you have in
your system before testing them.
Use an ASCII Terminal as Display Console
Currently (AIX Version 4.1.4), the procedure described above works only with
ASCII terminals as the console. If a graphics adapter is installed, it will not
work because of a system problem configuring the system keyboard.
